080916China Launches Appeal of WTO Auto Parts Ruling

China has lodged an appeal at the World Trade Organization against a ruling that says its tariffs on some imported car parts are unfair. The WTO's Dispute Settlement Body says it received an appeal today (Monday), just hours before the ruling was to be finalized in Geneva Switzerland.
China's official Xinhua news agency says Beijing's mission to the WTO disagreed with the legal explanations of the verdict. It did not elaborate.
The dispute body now has up to 90 days to release a new report on its findings. In July, the WTO ruled in favor of the United States, Canada and the European Union, saying the way China taxes foreign automakers is unfair. The ruling was the first against China since it joined the WTO.
